Question to support File Version in 10.7

Hi,

I'm working on adding File Version support to my application. It's not Cocoa
document based app, so I have to add version support on my own. My question
is when should I add a new version?  I know I should add a file version when
user save the file, but my observation to TextEdit.app looks there are
various timing should add a file version, like auto save, etc.

Is there any documents recommends the expected timing to add File Version?
