Sounds like a flaw in your profile logic. The convert to profile route should
give the same result as the printing dialog, given the same source and
printer profiles, and the same intent and CMM.

Are you actually tagging the
CMYK image with the Waterproof profile to begin with?

the original, such that you are applying the profiles twice?
Nope - double checked all of this.
I also just had this problem at another client. Doing it "By hand"
via convert to profile got good abs col proofing results - happy
customer. Doing it by the "proofing" method got different, not so
good results - unhappy customer.
So now they are doing it by hand until I get an solution to this problem.
Anyone?
