I think ColorSynergy is a sound color management package. Yes, like any
other package out there, it has its strengths and weaknesses but I would not
dismiss entirely (and on what base?) in the marketplace -- certainly would
not place it in the "low-end". We have used ColorSynergy for the past two
years and have had only good experiences with it, so far. We like its full
set of analytical tools (powerful 3D Gamut Viewer, previewing capabilities,
Profile Editor, built-in support for DC, ICC profile importing and
exporting, for instance). True, it has its quirks (is that how you say it in
english?) like auto white point adaptation.
Overall, we are pleased with the quality of its profiling performance over
the range of color peripherals we threw at it -- Dcam, printer (Inkjet,
litho press, flexo press, laser), monitor and scanner. In comparative
testing, we found default profiles created by ColorSynergy to outperform
ProfileMaker 3 profiles in terms of neutrality and constrast.
On the other hand, we are disapointed at the lack of PostScript "batch"
processing environment option like Praxisoft AutoFlow or Gretag BatchMaker
PS (is it called iProof now?) or ColorBlind Parachute, to color manage on
the fly output from popular DTP apps like InDesign or QuarkXpress.
This being said, we are anxiously awaiting support for the new ColorChecker
DC which will be part of a free version 4.5 update for ColorSynergy.
Although we know it won't have the bells and whistles of the full InCamera
Pro version which, in additionnally, pretend to be able to "color correct"
any RGB images.
