The original poster was wondering why we can't select CMYK profiles
within the driver ITSELF so that ColorSync can do the required RGB to
CMYK conversion at the driver level instead of it being based on tables
internal to the driver.
I think the biggest reason is probably what Bruce and a couple of others
have said, which is that the separation from RGB to CcMmYK is heavily
dependent on the screening algorithm. So pixel by pixel RGB to CMYK
conversion (which is what ColorSync would do) is probably inappropriate,
and insufficient.
