I can confirm that the package that LaCie is selling for about $600 US is in
fact the low cost, low quality Chroma4 colorimeter. Sequel does allow OEM
partners to rework and bundle their free software as well, something that
Monaco, PraxiSoft and ColorBlind have avoided, in part because they already
had monitor calibration software of their own, and simply wanted Sequel's low
cost puck. LaCie may well have decided to take the easy way out and simply
build upon the Sequel software, as the ad you mention indicates. LaCie lost a
huge amount of business in this market with the long term procrastination
about USB calibration support; and their final strategy has lost them even
more sales. The only LaCie monitor that any of my clients have purchased in
the last year was eventually returned for a refund due to this issue. It was
not too long ago that LaCie was my standard recommendation to both resellers
and end users, and now I actively discourage purchasing them. Oh well, I
guess if LaCie doesn't care, I shouldn't either...
