just went through this myself.
the Mac version of Fiery ColorWise Pro Tools is about the nastiest app I've
ever seen running on a Mac. Chris Murphy tells me the Windows version is
better but I haven't tried it yet. the app requires TCP/IP so if you aren't
using this transport you have to set up an IP number on the RIP and enable
TCP/IP on it. then you plug in the IP number and internal name of the
printer into the software. took forever to get the setup working, although
once it was done the program seems to work OK (for some value of "OK"). it's
some kind of bodged-up Java thing that has no menus and a UI like no other
on earth.
anyway, what I found is that the RIP only supports downloaded simulation
profiles, and these show up in your print driver options as "Simulation-x"
where x is 1-9. I uploaded two press profiles but haven't had time to test
this setup too much. ColorWise also lets you pull a profile off the RIP,
edit/ruin the curves, then write it back again which I guess would save some
time if you're trying to tune the profile but I would rather use a "real"
profile editor.
