In May this year, David Macy from EFI made a couple of posts to this list
regarding the differences between the Fiery 1.3 and 1.4 for the Epson 5000
and the 7000/9000. In the posts, he also specified how to go about using
profiles with each version and if it was necessary to send in RGB or CMYK,
depending on which which version of the RIP one is using.
I think it would be worthwhle to take a look at the archives regarding this,
and try some if not all of the recommendations as I have been able to
achieve very good results with the Fiery. How good? That is relative, but
I would say not as good as with some other RIPs such as Colorproof, but very
acceptable.
The main drawback I have found with the Fiery is the paper limitation. With
the 5000, if you want to to use a paper other than Epson or Dupont, you will
need a program such as Batchmatcher.
Regards.
