Monitor profiles are as you describe, affecting screen color but not
eyedropper numbers. Workingspaces, on the other hand, drasticly effect the
color numbers, and such numbers (especially with RGB files) are of little use
unless you know what space they are defined in. The only absolute numbers
(which is what you are seeking) would be LAB values.
