Probably here there are OptiCal users more experienced than I am, but my
take:
- when doing PreCal, you are not only setting a starting white point, but
also a starting gun power level. And then, when doing OptiCal, you are no
longer requested to move the individual guns, just the brightness and
contrast controls.
- so, if you PreCal to D50 but too dim, Optical will not be able to make
up for that via just brightness & contrast.
- when doing PreCal, it places its "aim points" based on the current
brightness; so before doing PreCal, pump the guns higher than you are
doing now. Maybe do PreCal twice: first do it to see more or less the
proportions between the gun levels. Then set the guns so that the highest
one reaches 100%, and the others keep proportion. Then do PreCal again;
this time it will end up much brighter, albeit at the same D50 since
that's its purpose.
- then OptiCal should be able to take care of the rest via brightness &
contrast.
