Which way is it?
Hiya Dave...
The quality levels that our illustrious ColorSync nurturer is
referring to is pretty much as you suspect.
The quality bit, interestingly enough is not part of the ICC profile
spec but instead is an optional bit set for the purposes of ColorSync
by Apple. - this is a legal thing to do within the spec incidently
and is documented in the ColorSync developers guide rather than the
ICC spec.
As far as I know the support of the bit - any actual change of
rendering accuracy, time or memory requirements - is optional within
each CMM. I presume it is supported by the Apple CMM but don't know
about any others, doubt the Adobe CMM pays any attention, and never
have done or heard of any testing in this area (how's that for a
fractured sentence).
I have always wondered why anyone who would go through the trouble of
finding/making profiles, installing them, and figuring out how to
apply them in applications would want anything other than the best
quality...
That said, I guess if something is using it, it makes sense to have
it set to best. The next update release of ColorThink will find all
bits and set them to best. That outta show em.

Steve Upton
