Its standard practice in the fabrics and plastics industry, with DataColor's
Colorite software. Working with full spectral data taken from your sample
with the included sperical spectro, you specify your illuminant and the
custom CMM shows the results, which can be reduced to a Lab value. Certain
45/0 spectrophotometer software can manage this type of transform, such as
the SpectroCam package, or X-Rite's ColorShop. The key here is access to
spectral data; I don't believe you will get accurate results without it.
