If you want to do it right, then get the ColorVision Monitor Spyder with
PhotoCal <www.colorcal.com> to cost effectively calibrate your monitor; the
visual stuff is just not accurate enough. And since the other half of your
equation is to get controlled output from your inkjet, then getting it
bundled with ProfilerRGB to build and edit profiles for your printer as well.
This combo is the simplest, fastest, most controllable of the affordable
solutions, and the ProfilerRGB user guide will cover many of your "how to"
questions.
