I'll have to leave an answer to that to Andrew, he's the one that gets to
play with the Gretag Macbeth toys...

It looks like a SpectroCam kind of thing
Yup price point for the middle package reflects that as well; price point for
the emissive only verison seems aimed at the DTP92 market.

We'll see what comes of that; the patent for a device taking both emissive
and reflective readings belongs to Gretag, so it could get interesting...

It apparently contains a continuous light source, instead of the Zenon flash
system used in SpectroCams.

I assume this is why they have not produced such an item previously, but
apparently they are finally feeling the squeeze from competing lower priced
devices, and have decided the time is ripe to move down to that market.

Or will we see a $1000 end-of-life Spectrolino offer next week?:)
It would only make sense for them to attempt to define a market for each, and
sell them as complementary lines, but there will inevitably be some effect on
'Lino sales. Not that too many people were buying SpectroLinos just to
calibrate their monitors (as Apple was demoing, prior to the announcement of
this product; makes a bit more sense now, doesn't it... <G>)
