Henrik, from a safety standpoint you're wrong. When I use the Apple or
Heidelberg CMM, I get scum dots. I rarely get them with the Adobe (ACE)
engine. Now regardless of what other reasons there are (which sound
mostly political to me, not practical) to use some other CMM, from a
usability, real world workflow point of view, using any other CMM is
potentially more lethal and costly if a job that should have a white
background ends up printing with 1 and 2% dots.
Now if you want me to volunteer your name as a benefactor to all screwed
up jobs as a result of having used some other CMM when the Adobe (ACE)
engine would NOT have caused this problem, please let me know.

Yes this is unfortunate but I think it's outside the control of those who
would like to release it to the public. The way Adobe has done things in
the past it takes a pliar to a tooth without novacaine, and by the 3rd
tooth being removed Adobe decides that being cooperative is a better way
to do things. (Note that the threat of pain isn't enough.)
While these political issues are legitimate reasons to give Adobe crap on
a public list, it's not a legimate reason to say "never use their
engine". It's bad advice. It's better to say "use the Adobe engine
because it has fewer bugs; and when you can't use it because Adobe isn't
sharing, then you'll have to use something else, be extra vigilant, and
hope for the best."
