Thanks to all who sent me some information on different inexpensive
monitor calibration sets. I have been advised 4 different softwares and
hardware:
1. PhotoCal with Monitor Spyder ($199)
2. Optical with the Spyder ($399)
3. Prove-it from Colorblind with Sequel Chroma 4 CRT & LCD monitor
colorimeter ($399)
4. Profile City's ICC display, can be bundled with the Chroma 4 ($286)
Reading all your comments and the specs on other web sites, I understand
the Optical is an excellent software, inexpensive, but the Spyder is
rather inaccurate on neutral gray setting although some have good
results with it.
Prove-it has some happy owners too and also allows measuring of the
paper's white in the light box. Will also suit a LCD panel if I upgrade.
At a reasonable price, comes Profile city ICC Display and Chroma 4
bundle. Will not work on LCD panels though, as far as I am aware.
I am leaving more expensive devices such as the X-Rite's aside to narrow
my choice on one of the 4 bundles described. Has there been a
comparative testing or is it known that one set will prevail over the
others? I am tempted towards ColorBlind and the Chroma 4, for it's
ability to manage LCD panels as well.
Thanks for any further thoughts and help!
