Hi,
I am so new to COlorSync, that I am not really completely sure what it is, how it works, and what it can really do for me.. However, I am trying to understand and hope that you people will help me out..
I have a G4500DP machine with Mac OS 9.1 installed. I own a copy of PhotoShop6 and have a UMax Astra 4000U scanner, as well as an Epson Stylus Photo 1280 printer. I also own a Sony 20se monitor.
Now that is out of the picture, here is what I have for settings. I have gone into the monitors control panel and walked through the long manual setup for my monitor profile since one did not exist. I saved it with a custom name for future referece. I have (a previously scanned) photo, (done on a Umax 1200S) saved off in a 600 dpi tiff format. I have gone into the ColoySync Control panel, and set up a new workflow (COnfiguration in almost all other control panels), and changed the settings to the following..
Input: UMAX Astra 4000u
Display: My Custom Settings (Closet to what is correct).
output: Epson Stylus 1280 standard (I chose standard since I am not using photo paper yet).
Proofer: Default (Whatever was there since I really don't know what this setting is for. My first question is what is this proofer setting for and how does it help me?).
Then I went into PS6 and set the color settings preferences to use Color Sync Workflow. I opened my photo and it looked darker than I thought it should, but I figured it the system new best.
Then I tried to print it to the Epson, and at the bottom left of the panel I chose the pop up menu from color profile and selected Epson Stylus 1280 standard. (I thought it should already have that set, but it had some other setting in the panel).
The picture printed really dark wasting alot of ink for something unuseable.
Could someone explain to me the following.
What did I do wrong?
What I am supposed to do to setup my system properly?
How come my photo printed so dark?
How do I get it to print the photo in an accurate representation?
I really want what I scan to be what I see on the monitor to also be what I print, which I thought is what ColorSync was supposed to help me with..
The Mac OS System help files, didn't assist me any further than what I had already done.
Thank you for your assistance.
The purpose to all this was so I could print and make a nice anniversary card for my fiance.. It would have been the perfect card..
Sincerely,
Kevin Shapiro
