Sony has replaced the G500 with a G520. Both of the monitors are quite good
and have all of the bells and whistles that one expects from a higher end
monitor. We have standardised on these monitors and have all 10 of our
designers outfitted with them. Calibration and profiling of the monitors is
done with the Gretag EyeOne.
At one point I had a G500, calibrated with the X-Rite Monitor Optimiser &
Optical, sitting right next to a Barco RefCal 5, calibrated with it's
built-in system, displaying the same image. From the comparison I certainly
could not justify the difference in price between the two monitors. We all
felt that the Sony actually handled color better in general, while the Barco
had a slight edge on handling highlight and shadow areas.
My two shekels worth...

So to recap: the monitor will be well calibrated with the X-Rite yet not
