For one: Freehand has its own ICM folder where it looks for profiles.
Some put a Colorsync Folder alias in there, others (like myself)
simply put my user profiles in the ICM Folder. I've had problems with
the Color Preferences locking up when flip flopping settings. Also,
the Kodak Color Tables dialogue won't allow you to change monitor and
separations settings unless you go Kodak Digital Science table and
set prefs from there.
Many, like myself, use AdobeRGB 1998 (2000 version comes with PS6) as
an RGB workspace. CMYK is really up to your required uses. Our shop
uses the USsheetfed v2 profiles (USsheetfedSWOP.icc mostly) provided
with PS6 for standard output (we are a service bureau on one side). I
use a specialized series of settings for our large format department
and a HiEnd SWOP profile from Imacon 10% dot gain is a current CMYK
favorite. All my defaults in PS6 are AskWhenOpening etc., etc.
Here: have a snapshot of one setup.
Moving on good luck...wish I could talk more. gotta go.
