Oh yes, this policy is more than annoying. I know it from my own
experience. About a year ago when I was still running PosterShop 4.0 and
when we bought a newer Encad Printer which was not fully supported in 4.0
I wanted to overthink my decision for Onyx which then had been made
another two years ago (we decided to buy PosterShop then because they
were the first ones to either support ICC profiles and to have
distribution channels in Germany).
I made a small list consisting of some technical questions which I sent
via e-mail to some LFP software manufacturers which was also saying I was
using PosterShop and wanted to see what's available right then to
overthink my former decision.
Most of them were very and answered my questions and named their German
distributors some of which contacted me even directly. With Onyx it was
different. They sent me a reply saying I had to purchase a service
contract first before having answered my questions.
Some time later during DRUPA I met Thomas Degenfeld
(
mailto:email@hidden), the sales mgr for Europe, who was more than
glad to answer my questions.
I should perhaps add that I'm still a PosterShop user (not at least
because of Thomas who gave me back some confidence into Onyx).

I'm currently running two installations of PosterShop 5 (one "original
release", one with service pack 1 installed) which both perfectly apply
the correct profiles automatically ("default Printer ICC").
The only thing that scrambled my profile library (that funny
calibrantion/characterization container thing you can edit in PosterShop
Profiler) was to eliminate some scrrening and resolution functions in
Server config. In my case it was the library for an HP DesignJet 5000
which I tested in either 1200x600 and 600 dpi and finally decided to
exclusively want to use 600 dpi. Perhaps you did a similar thing?
Probably you also defined any color as "pure hue" in the profiles dialog
(as I'm currently doing for Black/Grey on my Encad printer).
Hope this helps,
