Subject: iProof question.
I know that in this mailing list iProof is considering as the examle of very
unsuccessfull RIP. But it's very overspreaded in any case. I want to find
answers on some questions about it.
Does anybody have an experience in profiling Epson Stylus with iProof RIP?
Is it possible to insert custom printer profile in it? (e.g. profile for my
custom Epson paper,inks and printer).
Is it possible to insert custom press profile in it? (e.g. custom Flexo
Press).
I just tested the iProof Demo about 4 months ago. The dithering on
images was so horrible I was astounded. I couldn't believe that
anyone could use this product. It may have been appropriate 6 or 7
years ago before the Epson Stylus RIP, but it's too easy to get much
better output now. It did look like you could use your profiles, but
I never got that far in my tests. The sad thing is that iProof could
have a great share of the RIP market for inkjets since they have a
relatively low price point, but I guess they can't afford to fix
their product. It seems like they'll keep selling the same thing as
long as there is someone to buy it.
They will sell you the demo for about $20 or $30. Of course it would
be nice if it could just be downloaded, but they don't offer that.
