I have a problem that doesn't seem to have an solution but I am still
asking here to see if anybody have a better solution.
The problem is as follow.
We have an RGB-image workflow and we use Prinergy as our workflow
system. In Prinergy we do all our ICC-conversion of RGB images, i.e
we do not use the Colormanagement inside of Quark or other
applications. We feel that we have better control when doing all
ICC-conversion in just one place. Easier management of profiles and
such.
When printing from Quark 4.1 we can choose RGB composite or CMYK
composite as output options. Since Prinergy is PDF based we feed it
with composite PS-files. The problem is that when choosing CMYK
output Quark will internally convert all RGB data in the PS-stream to
CMYK, without any control of how it is done. Choosing RGB will leave
the images in RGB but then all CMYK defined boxes will convert to RGB
and then we get unsatisfied results when Prinergy converts them to
CMYK. It is a NoWin situation what ever we do.
In Quark 4.0x there was an XTension available that did make this work
properly, i.e. it leaved RGB images intact. But that one doesn't work
with 4.1x since Qaurk think that the present solution is better.
The workaround we do at the moment is to save images as EPS in RGB
mode, Quark doesn't convert EPSs. Or we let the OPI replace the
images with HiRes RGB TIFF files. And I am not satisfied with any of
these solutions.
I have asked about this before but I make another try now.
To use the internal ColorManagement in Quark is not a viable solution
for us, so please don't leave any suggestions about that.
Thanks
Jan
