Thank you all for your informative replies on and off the list.

I have "discovered" the profiling service at Profile City and have sent
them a target. (I thought I _was_ using a printer profile, but, of
course, this was a generic.)

I am also looking into the environment lighting, calibration devices and
the other suggestions. Next week is MacWorld Expo/New York. I'm sure
I'll see some solutions there.
