Silverfast has the option to use "48 bit HDR" data to bring into Photoshop from scanners. The resulting PS histogram has the whites clipped off
(24 bit version from Silverfast is OK). In sampling the 48 bit data in PS, Photoshop shows RGB of 255,255,255 or lesser values, nothing above
255. 0-255 is only 8 bits worth of data per color. Silverfast says the Photoshop has a bug in bringing in 48 bit data and the 48 bit HDR that
they make is intended for the optional Silverfast module that creates and applies profiles to the 48 bit HDR data and then exports finished 24
bit data to PS.
Can you get good 48 bit data into PS 6? We'd like to run profile the scanner in 48 bit and apply the profile on the way into PS, but the 48 bit
data is slightly truncated at the white point.
