Are you saying the ColorChecker DC is not usable with the glossy patches? I
thought they were a critical part of the "improved results" from using this
target.
This is a pretty significant problem (as in, "completely screwing up" many
digital photo workflows).
I have not heard any mention of this from input profile software vendors (or
anyone else, till now).
Can any list members corroborate or share more info on this issue?
Thanks,
John
P.S. - oh, and how would a user force profile-generating software to
ignore/exclude those patches (say, ICC DCam, for example)?
We have also had similar experiences with the new ColorCheckerDC; I
can get much better results with glossy patches disabled. We use
ColorSynergy 4.5 (using same DCamera part as InCameraProfessional)
and it is delivering very good DCam-profiles. It has even a button to
disable the glossy patches, when you make the profile. The trick is
to profile the raw-output of the camera and then colorbalance and
apply the profile. So you can use one profile for different lightning
conditions (best results naturally when you profile each lightning)
to get usable results.
One problem with the new ColorChecker (did not exist with the old
version) is some minor banding in extreme highlights. We have had
very good results also with the old card, so the new version does not
seem to be so superior.
You can visit picto.com (ColorSynergy, InCamera, ICorrect) to get
more information of the products and their manual(PDF) for
ColorSynergy is very informative also in color basics, covering much
more than this spesific product.
