Too bad all the other software is not as robust as Photoshop.

Except yellows and highlights, and single channel blacks.

Yes. The dithering will be different you know.

I don't understand . Raw as in rgb? It's doable now in Best and they're
cooking up an update that'll do this very well slated for this summer. Ulf?

Here I'm positive that the Best line will do well compared to a Fiery.
Suppose it's a risky choice but Best prefer to gear the proof to a press and
Fiery towards a laminate analogue proof. Both are valid and the dithering
through Fiery is truly photographic. Comes back to do you target the press
character or the proofer.

Dupont bought the RIP technology from a third party but seriously overpriced
the product for their target market. They say theirs is the only standard to
go by, MatchPrint say the same, Brunner says their system is the only system
etc etc... but we the users know that all of this is rather irrelevant to
the real issues at hand IE; inkjet printing.

Why can't the EFI or the Best rips get close to the shadow quality of the

I think the Best will come up with a decent shadow detail if all the
parameters are correctly set up. I'm sure that Darrin Southern could fill us
in on the fine art of screwing down the knobs in Best to take out the Nth
degree of colour.
There's also the Imation RIP that is really a fine RIP but not sure it
supports the Epson yet. Before it was the HP GA and the Canon 8500.
