Chris
I already knew the Colorsync button in Epson desktop's
drivers to be unpredictable [since it apparently looks to the
Mac's system profile as a source in the conversion it offers].
Some say it's the 6 colour Epsons that don't use it well.
I never worked out what "printer colour management" did anyway,
so I'm pleased to see that they have taken that checkbox away
from the 1290.
When you write as you did below
>
"you shouldn't be letting the driver do ANY color conversions "
are you saying that we should even recommend users to avoid the
currently rather convenient method of:
leaving a printable document in it's PS workingspace
and choosing the output profile in the Epson driver's "printer
space" slot [therefore apparently converting "within" the print
driver]?
Whilst I have you [for a moment] could you pronounce on the
merits of rotation of landscape images in Photoshop 6 to portrait
format - as against allowing Epson to rotate them?

It's also perhaps worth noting that, whilst it may allow an Epson
to reach a more "calibrated" state prior to profiling, using a
printer having selected the "Colour Controls" - "PhotoRealistic"
setting seems to reduce the gamut to one significantly smaller
than, say Euroscale coated CMYK. Not much use for proofing CMYK
then. Thanks again to Steve Upton for the fantastic Colorthink,
specifically practical 3D gamut viewing which product enabled
this revalation.
