"Ah I visited the site above and have this feeling that I or we in France
have been scanning with a different Kami than maybe we should have. Myself,
some big photo labs running Tango's and even Heidelberg France have been
scanning with RC 2001 which is rose and listed as film cleaner not to be
used on the drum. Are you using the SXL 2001 blue Scannex liquid?"...
We've used film cleaners of every brand and variety (True Dot, Prisco, etc.)
in the past when there was no scanning or mineral oil to be had, but it is
not what we'd prefer, and definitely not on the plexi drums. For the odd
mount or two on a flatbed it's OK.
As far as Kami goes, we primarily use the SMF 2001 Scanner Mounting Fluid
product, and it is more a clear fluid than anything else, certainly not
blue. I think the drum cleaner was blue (?).
We've also used the SC 2001 Scan Fluid for anti-newton, anti-grain mounts,
but as a rule we've stuck with SMF 2001. I'm not familiar with the SXL
product you mention. It's probably what they're calling the scanner mounting
fluid now. My documentation on it is quite old, and the last time we ordered
any we got enough for a lifetime <G>. I did notice SXL 2001 was the only
mounting fluid listed at the website I gave in the earlier post.
For stateside interest I did dig out KAMI's US Sales information. Their
address is P.O. Box 1235, Starke, Florida 32091-1235, telephone
904-964-3408. But the list of dealers offered at the website is undoubtedly
current, so it may be the better way to go.
And so as not to appear completely KAMI biased, we didn't care too much for
their tape, so we went back to good old Scotch brand for drum scanning. <G>
