You can get Munsel gray mixed at a paint store, buts its too dark for my
taste; so I just read their stock paint samples with a spectro to determine
what they have for a light grays that are close, and mix them together to get
a neutral result.
Solux incandescent bulbs have a very even balanced spectrum, but run very
hot, and hold their color temperature for only a very short time, so I
recommend the spiral Ott-Lite bulbs, which fit many standard screw in
sockets. There bulbs have an excellent color temperature, and a suprisingly
good spectral range for a fluorescent light, due to a special combination of
six different phosphors. They stay color accurate many times longer than
Solux bulbs and produce much more light per watt of energy consumed. Many
other manufacturers claim "just as good as Ott-Lite" for their less expensive
bulbs, but when I test them with a spectro they are not nearly as well
balanced and smooth. Ott-Lites are also available in standard fluorescent
tube form, and as desk lamps.
