I have to say that the integrity of any custom profile (also canned for that
matter) is tied to the quality of the baseline. The baseline function is to
set the max ink densities of each color, to minimize the amount of work the
profile needs to perform with regard to re-mapping colors. Remember that you
then do the 'quality of colors' test to set the overall ink limit, which is
also critical for ink jets. This is when you now profile your current ink
and paper combination.

I did the calibration of BestColor just two days before - baseline linearisation for two papers - total limit set to 200 %. I have use the DTP 41 for measurement. Very easy and fast. The ink limits per channel I have set a bit (+.2 D) than assumed maxD for inks used in print press. After I have create both profiles for paper and linked together with reference profile of proof (3M Matchprint - by wish of customer) . Only problem was that Printer linearisation with DTP41 didn't work - there was no affect on print out whet I have repeat the linearisation measurement. So I have to do it by "Visual linearisation". Difference between 3M proof and Epson 5000 + Best proof were minimal, not more than 2 % of shift in "Visual linearisation".

But I have very serious problems with HP GA printer and Best - both versions (Design Edition for Mac and Medium for Win) of another customer. Design edition simple didn't work and Medium worked on 50 %. But many serious problems with printer itself too.

Dont call me Expert, please :-)
