I always use Rel for the previewing phase. The only intent that would be
altered would be the conversion from the press profile -> PCS. At the moment
I use Abs for that. If I use Rel then that "turns off" paper white
simulation, as the white point is adjusted. What I was asking was if turning
off the simulation of paper white is really necessary. If you're proofing
on the same stock as the press the white point would be the same. I a
profile was created for the proofer using that stock you'd get the same
result using Rel or Abs right?
