No, the gamma is not lower. Gamma is how light or dark the midtones are;
luminence is how bright (not how warm or cool) the white point is. Lowering
the luminence also lowered the brighness of your midtones in an absolute
sense, but did not change your gamma, since gamma is relative to the
whitepoint.
