David,
I too would like to know the answer to the questions that were posted to
this list over a week ago.
I have been given the job to 'calibrate' a Xerox Phaser 790, and I have been
able to communicate with the printer with the ColorWise Pro Tools 1.1
I have added custom profiles I have built with PrintOpen for the simulation
for the printer, but without first 'calibrating' the Phaser 790, I am not
starting from a stable view point.
Here is where I am at:
1. Select Measurement Method.
The only option to calibrate is to use a DTP32 or a 'Mousitometer'
I have a DTP41 - is there an option to use the DTP41 device ?
2. Check Print Settings.
I would like to set up multiple 'Calibration Sets' so that I can run with
the existing 'Plain Paper' and also add another 'Calibration Set' for the
Xerox Super Gloss A3 stock.
How do I add another 'Calibration Set(s)' ?
3. Generate Measurement Page.
I have printed the '34 sorted patches' using the Xerox Super Gloss A3 stock
through the bypass tray.
This is where we need to separate the terminology for 'calibrate' and
'profile'. The page printed by the Fiery rip is to set the densities for
each of the four channels - which is really only linerising, but does
nothing for the grey balance, or the actual gamut, as an icc profile would.
What we are expecting is to be able to turn off the 'Plain Paper Calibration
Set' in the Fiery rip, and then print the profiling patches from any
profiling software, and then build a profile, which can then be used by the
rip.
This is exactly what the BEST rip does - it also allows to set the densities
for each of the CYMK channels, and also the 'total ink limit' before we
build custom profiles for the printer.
Thanks in advance,
Darrin.

In other words, the question to EFI would be:

Is there a way to get "uncalibrated CMYK" (no profiles applied) out of

the Fiery so as to profile it as a CMYK device, and later load that

profile instead of the bundled ones?
