It would be great to have then an "export to flat PDF 1.3" option or
such... so that transparency and overprint can be rendered by PDF
rasterizers that don't yet support 1.4 (such as all currently shipping
prepress rips) or don't do overprints on composites (such as most color
proofing rips).
Right now, that would take exporting to EPS and then redistilling... of
course, you could just go on with EPS or PS from then on, but you lose
some size advantages and maybe some speed too.
