Dark Cinema

I don't have a Cinema Display, I don't know what controls it has, and I
have never seen Gretag's Eye-One Pro package for monitor calibration, BUT
I'm attempting to trouble-shoot a first-time Cinema calibration for a
friend a thousand miles away. Needless to say, I turn to you
ColorSync'rs.

The package that my friend has is the monitor profiling software with the
spectro for monitor and print profiling. He seems to have gotten an
accurate profile for his Cinema - his Epson 7500 prints match (3rd party
profiled) - but his screen is now very dark - and very disappointing to
work on.

I tried to download Eye-One information from the G/M site, but there is
little information there. This all sounds to me like he may be missing a
step, or that the Eye-One package is not the right tool that he needs. I
mean, I can set my Sony at 80cd/m2 or 100cd/m2 and OptiCal doesn't care.
The profiles render images in Photoshop correctly no matter.

What's the answer? Should he be chuck the Eye-One for a more effective
profiler?

Tony
