Are there any freeware/shareware hexachrome utilities for separating rgb
files into Pantone's "hexachrome" color separations? I'd have no problem
buying Pantone's plug in but I'd like to try it first.

The problem is that once you have converted RGB>Hex, you have a six channel
DCS2 file that you can't really do much with, unless you own Pantone's new V2
software, or something much more expensive.
Don Hutcheson has a couple of PDFs on HiFi color workflows

Key note: is the client willing to pay for Hexachrome based high
fidelity press work? Or is this for other destination?
We jumped in on Roland's Pantone Hexachrome inkjet workflow two years
back, bought Pantone's HexImage and HexVector, jumped up and down for
two weeks then went directly into RGB workflow.
