Mark,
The native color mode for Illustrator 8.0 files is CMYK. When you rip your
Illustrator 8.0 files (and Quark .eps pages) in PS6 use the CMYK mode and then
convert them to RGB.
Illustrator 9.0 gives you the option of working in either RGB or CMYK mode.
