Problem profile?
Problem profile?

I am working for a publisher, and we use a separation profile generated by a
previous employee with Heidelberg Print Open ICC 3.0.1.
Results are more than acceptable with this profile - but I have some
'issues' with this profile, but I have not done any profile building or
editing myself - and this is not really an easy option to undertake
(software not for 'candy' Apples, only the old gray boxes, lack of time,
knowledge etc).
Here are my concerns:
In Photoshop, a RelCol transform with BPC will leave a 'dirty white' with 1c
0myk. This can be edited out, but with CTP there is a chance that this dot
may hold on press if it is missed - obviously a clean RelCol transform would
be good.
Perceptual seems to give the same exact results as Saturation - which
significantly changes the look of a RGB file which is in gamut, while a
RelCol transform does not change the look of the image, this is as expected
from using other CMYK profiles, where there is no significant change to the
look of the image (if in gamut).
Are these things to be expected with a 'home made' profile? As things stand
there will be no change to the profile, I am just attempting to understand
the situation.
I do have a free ICC viewer which lets me read the tags, but even with this
lists ongoing info I am lost.
Thanks for your time,
Stephen Marsh.
