I didn't ever use Designeredition, but having had very good results from the
Windows equivalent I expect getting very good results from the Macintosh
version, too. I'll keep the list posted.
Meanwhile I did a comparison on our Pro7000 (which is running Staedtler ink,
not the original set):
- Interestingly enough with comparable settings in the driver (and the same
paper) the printer does not show such a terribly high dot gain as the 1270.
- The 7000's out-of-the-box result (with the custom but unedited profile) is
also way better than the result from the 1270.
- The results through Bestcolor 4.2.3 (I did not upgrade it to 4.5/4.6 yet,
so no mixed RGB/CMYK workflows here) are quite close to the Quickdraw driver
results.
So now I'm a bit confused how Bestcolor/Designeredition will yield to better
results on the 1270. Maybe I simply do a test with my Bestcolor for Windows
license and the 1270?!?

that and stick with the Quickdraw driver.
My concern with an XTension is that I want to sell (or: recommend) a
"universal" solution with which the customer gets the same results
regardless from the application he uses.

That's what Joe Holmes told me in the meantime, too. Thanks for the
information anyway.
Take care,
