I am working with Profile Maker 4.0, Gretag's Spectroscan, the Epson
10000/Photographic Dye Ink and the Best Screen Proof Rip.
I am starting with "Commercial" stock in the Epson and want to set it up to
have a larger gamut than our Kodak Approval on similar Commercial stock.
(Our Approval is setup to match MatchPrint).
I've went through the BaseLin process and profiled the stock. I found the
gamut was larger on my Kodak. :(
So, I started over with the BaseLin. I measured the proof at timed intervals
to figure out how long I need to wait for dry back.
Next I measured the BaseLin proof and compared the measurements to Solid
CMYK patches on my Approval using Gretag's Spot Color tool. I looked for the
lowest Delta E value and guessed as to where to limit my ink in the BaseLin
process. (I moved up the scale if I thought the lowest Delta E was too
light.)
After the BaseLin was complete, I reprinted my profile targets, let them
dry, measured and built a new profile.
Viewing my profiles in 3D mode, I can see I was able to increase the gamut
size in the Yellow and Red hues, but the gamut is still smaller. The problem
areas are in the shadows, Red/Yellow/Green hues, and in the yellow
highlights extending from neutral to saturated.
I would appreciate any help you can give with manipulating the gamut of this
device.
