Thats an old wives tale that is unfortuately being further spread by being in
print... the file extentions .icm and .icc will both work on the PC, while
the Mac classic OS doesn't pay any attention to either of them. OS X checks
file name extensions as well as file type and creator codes.

Yes, the profile is the same, but the file type and creator code for the Mac
is missing in a PC built version, unless you add it back in with a resource
editor or a script.
