About a year ago there was some heated debate about this with some vocal
folks from some software companies saying that they would not allow profiles
to be distributed (and a lot of people on this list letting them have it big
time). Shortly afterwards, some companies apparently changed their policies
if memory serves me. I'm pretty sure GretagMacbeth does allow distribution
of profiles for limited use (one user for example). Where things get sticky
(and for good reason) would be a situation where some large company that
made printers simply purchased a profile and put it on their CD. That is a
clear case where a specific license from a company and a nice fee would be
necessary.
