I somewhat agree, but using the black cartridge to match press black isn't
going to work because the inkjet inks are wacky. Showing the text undercolor
on a proof is better than discovering it on press.

Does ImagePrint colour managed overprinting coloured objects?
I don't know but they do rip all object independently and anti-alias before
combining so its possible its there.

I really don't think it would be possible to calculate:
1)Because overprint tends to violate your TIC (Total Ink Coverage) on some
rips which would overwhelm the media coatings and who knows what you get.
2) The pigment inks lighting issues
3) The pigment inks are not that translucent - so you would have to
calculate there opaqueness --- which I think would be very difficult.
If you want some real fun send a 2ft square of registration to your
printer.(which customers do all the time in vector design programs). Does
the rip trap it to black only or let 400%+ through. Should you let it
through? Don't you have to for special reg marks ? Now your answers here
will also have to apply to the black text issue.
PS it will make a real mess depending on the rip and media.
What happens when I have a Photoshop document that has text on a Text layer
or a raster bitmap layer with text and print from Photoshop. It could be
text with undercolor or overprint. It could be a bitmap text that has
undercolor than is subject to TIC limits. It could be black channel only. You
could make a print from Photoshop that has a dozen different colors of black
text in it. How can we deal with these?
You have to a let a file print as is --- trapping special things creates
way to many combinations and could be good or bad depending on what your
doing and different for different devices.. Let the apps take care of it.
Make the designers learn something.
