That reminded me of a thread on this list a few months ago.

I have since had some correspondence with Greg, after he received his new
Pantone book. He told me that each patch in the book includes (among other
things) the following information:
a) An indication of whether or not the color is inside the RGB gamut.
b) The RGB values.
Apparently, the book further states that the RGB space used is sRGB.
Therefore, a sufficiently motivated and tenacious individual could convert
each of the in-gamut RGB values from sRGB into Lab using a suitable color
calculator (hmmm... where could he find one of those? :-). That would in
theory give the "official" Lab values for at least a large subset of the
Pantone colors.
Disclaimer: I am speaking of a hypothetical situation here. I don't know the
extent of Pantone's intellectual property rights (which of course, should be
honored).
