Depends what else your're sending along to the RIP. And depends whether ALL
your images will have the same embedded profile. There are many possibles
solutions here. As you say, you could extract the embedded profile and use
that in your RIP -- which RIP do you use that truly lets you use ICC
profiles, and in which way? If it's a BESTcolor RIP then you're in business.
Otherwise? I don't know.
Personnally, I would not convert from CMYK to RGB in Photoshop knowing that,
in your RIP, the image will suffer another RGB to CMYK conversion -- and
possibly an extra CMYK to CMYK conversion for proofing.
Can you say more about your production scenario?
