Can you explain why you see this as an advantage? The only way to get a

RIP which will be used to make the plates.

Maybe I am dead wrong about this -- hope the BEST people are going to rescue
me! I'll have to talk to the people at the print shop where I saw
ScreenProof installed and get back to you for confirmation. Maybe I dreamed
this. But you know, irregardless of the fact that you need a RIP to generate
the 1-bit file to begin with, there is still a *re-screening* going on to
transform the raw 1-bit file out of the RIP to the actual dot pattern that
the inkjet printer can lay down. Unless I totally missed something in screen
proofing. And please correct me if I did, Darrian.
So if, in effect, ScreenProof is able to generate haltone patterns directly
from a PostScript file then there would be nothing wrong with having that
"dot" generated through a RIPped 1-bit file or directly through ScreenProof,
_on_strict_DOT_appearance_ground.
But I grant you (that is a big disclaimer here) that there could be
differences of interpretation between direct BEST ripping and Fuji PS3
ripping or Heidleberg Delta PS3 ripping or AGFA Apogee PS3 ripping of the
same incoming PostScript job. Wich opens up another argument but I don't
want to get into it: it won't help clear the question you raised.
