This is cross posted to several lists (sorry)
We have had this probelm for a while and this is a new attempt to try and solve
the problem...It started with our Epson 2000P and continues with our Epson 7000
(It was not a problem with our original Epson PhotoEX).
When we first got the Epson 2000P printer installed (but is also true with our
new Epson 7000), if we tried to print (from Photoshop only...any version) using
the 'canned' Epson profiles for the specific paper we were using, we would get a
terrible output...Very red and no black being printed.
We have found 2 workarounds, neither of which are acceptable:
1: Print out via Quark, which seems to work well enough, but has obvious
limitations.
2: Use the 'monitor' profile in Photoshop. This should not work...but it does,
relatively well.
This above 'fix' (monitor profile) seems to have worked very well for the 2000P,
and we get a very good match from our LaCie 19" calibrated monitor to actual
output. It does not, however, work well for the Epson 7000 output.
I had hoped that this was just a 2000P-centric problem, but that does not appear
to be the case.
Now that we have color management tools, (Spectrocam, Colorvision Spyder,
Profiler Pro) I'm afraid that there will be the same 'conflict' with canned
profiles, but I will never be able to separate a faulty profile (my fault) or if
it's a problem with the aforementioned 'conflict'.
FWIW: I have spoken to Epson (several times) and they came up with the 'pick
the monitor profile' workaround, but no real solution, and with Adobe, who said
it was an Epson problem.
Any ideas of where the problem is coming from? (as I assume it's some sort of
weird conflict).
Oh,
Mac G4 OS 9.2
Photoshop versions: 5, 5.5., & 6.0.1
