Richard--
I scan Kodachrome slides on a Nikon LS4000ED using NikonScan 3.1 as a
Photoshop 6.0 plug-in on a Mac.
After many experiments I found I get the best results by turning off
Nikon Color Management, scanning a Kodachrome IT8 target, creating a
custom profile with ICC Scan from profilecity.com, then scanning my
slides with Nikon Color Management turned off and assigning my custom
profile to the resulting scans.
I also find that adjusting analog gain, etc. (often individually on
each color channel) to fill out the histogram helps pull the most
detail off the slides.

I am looking for any information (besides the user manual) on best
practices for creating and using scanner profiles with Nikon Scan
3.1 software. Any help would be appreciated.
