White vs. black: it really does matter what you're measuring. For measuring
some textiles with a Spectrolino here at Levi's we use black and get a much
closer match, and some --especially the lighter, thinner ones -- REQUIRE a
white backing for a decent reading. It makes sense. I can't comment on the
science, just share my experience that with the textiles we measure day-in,
day-out, there has been no one right answer.
