Terry,

I read Bruce Fraser's suggestion of using identical sheets of paper behind
the target, so that it more resembles the situation when you are looking at
a printed image in a magazine or book that has identical sheets behind it. I
tried it and it does change the measurements considerably. I don't have
enough experience yet to say whether the change is for better or worse.
When I thought of taking the 'middle road' and stacking up identical
targets, CD Tobie said that was not a good idea.
Since most of my prints are mounted on grey backing board, I also suggested
that reading the targets on grey backing board might be the best solution
for me, but the experts never rose to that one!

If your images are likewise to be displayed on grey backing board,
it's probably a perfectly reasonable solution.
The problem with stacking targets is that you wind up exaggerating
the black, and your saturated colors come out darker than they should.
A bigger problem is what to do when your targets have something else
printed on the reverse. I'm open to suggestions on that one!
