Terry,
Colorsavvy (who make my Colormouse) say specifically that targets should be
measured using a black background (to prevent transmitted light coming back
through the target and upsetting the reflected measurements).
I read Bruce Fraser's suggestion of using identical sheets of paper behind
the target, so that it more resembles the situation when you are looking at
a printed image in a magazine or book that has identical sheets behind it. I
tried it and it does change the measurements considerably. I don't have
enough experience yet to say whether the change is for better or worse.
When I thought of taking the 'middle road' and stacking up identical
targets, CD Tobie said that was not a good idea.
Since most of my prints are mounted on grey backing board, I also suggested
that reading the targets on grey backing board might be the best solution
for me, but the experts never rose to that one!
Bob Frost.
